The oldest social event in Nakoma is the Twelfth Night Theater. Founded in 1923, the evening presents a cocktail hour, heavy appetizers, and original musical comedy, written and performed by neighbors. Twelfth Night occurs in early spring and fledgling actors are encouraged to contact a league member to learn more and join the cast!
Historically, the first Nakoma families gathered for a potluck Christmas dinner in 1916. Later, the party became much more elaborate, attracting a crowd of about 350 neighbors! The evening began with cocktail parties for new residents and a dinner at the school was followed by a ceremony to welcome new residents to the neighborhood. Neighbors presented humorous skits and finally, everyone danced to the music of a live orchestra.
Through plagues, wars, the Great Depression, and recessions, the 12th Night Players have been here to liven up these deep winter months.
A very special thank you to Metcalfes Market for their dessert sponsorship!
